It is with mixed feelings that we announce the retirement of Dr. Laura Pixton, effective at the end of February.

On one hand, we're saddened that she's hanging up her stethoscope after spending 23 years at Bartels but, on the other, we're happy that she'll have time to pursue her interests and spend more time with her family.

A constant presence for over two decades, it will be difficult to imagine the hospital without her. She has made a positive impact on countless lives (pets and humans alike) over the years and leaves behind a legacy about which she can be proud.

We'd like to leave you with these words from Dr. Pixton:

To My Wonderful Clients,

After 30 years in practice (how did time go SO fast?!) and 23 years at Bartels Pet Hospital, the time has come for me to pass the torch. I will be retiring at the end of February. Having known many of you for so long, I will truly miss you and the generations of pets that you have allowed me to know and treat. There were many good times and, unavoidably, some sad times, and I thank you for all those years of trust.

I look forward to spending more time with my husband, children, grandchildren (nine and counting!), and with LIVE INSPIRED, the nonprofit my husband and I founded in Medina County in 2015. LIVE INSPIRED trains and supports home visitors as coaches for under-resourced families, helping parents be their child’s first, best teacher. Over two years, two to four-year-olds and their parents receive 92+ visits, 30+ new books, and 22 new educational toys to prepare children to enter kindergarten on par with their peers. Retirement will allow me to put a lot of extra time and energy into this great cause.

As you know, Bartels Pet Hospital has a fabulous professional and support staff that will continue to provide you with the wonderful, personal service that you have grown to expect. Drs. Gretchen Zarle and Barb Akl will continue to provide wonderful care and expertise heading into the future.

We would also like to announce the addition of Dr. Anne Soinski – back with us full-time following the birth of her daughter in November. Dr. Soinski is a graduate of The Ohio State University and comes to us with 12 years of veterinary experience. These doctors will now be MY pet's veterinarians as well as yours.

Again, thank you so much for all the years of trust. I will miss you and your pets, and I assure you they will continue to be in good hands.

Laura Pixton, DVM
